On Book Teefers and Fines

First, I should tell you what a teefer is. It is not a teething baby. It is actually a thief. It is a commonly used word in my house.

But we’re not talking about just any teefers. We’re talking about BOOK teefers.

You see, some time ago—perhaps December—I turned in my library books. The next February, I received a notice telling me that I had overdue library books. So I went up to the library to complain. The librarians are nice people, or at least they are now. They said they’d look. Three months later I got another notice.

Well, I don’t think we’re going to find the books at my house, seeing as I’ve looked all over my room and actually cleaned it pretty well. I’m positive I turned the books in! But they aren’t in the library, either. I looked myself.

So, do you know what I think? Well, if you recall the title, you do. But anyway, I think, that in December when I turned my books in, the T.A. who emptied the book container TEEFED them!

I asked the librarian, “Do you think maybe they got stoled?” (My English usually isn’t perfect when I talk).

She GLARED at me, said it was unlikely and said they’d keep looking.

But come May, I’m going to owe the school $70.23 since I really doubt the books will turn up.
