You May of Noticed I Haven't Been Around . . .

But here I am! 6:00 in the morning and wide awake.

Sorry I haven't written. Working 8 hour days, 8:00-4:30. Don't got a lot of time to myself.

Been working on a new story, 'bout this kid named "Sam." It's a fanfic, Harry Potter. (Damn those movies!) Anyway, it's about Snape and Sam. A preview:

Then {Samantha} spotted Snape, and stopped short.

“Hello, you. Come to watch the game?”

“No, I came to eat the refreshments.”

She gave him a weird look. “They aren’t really all that good.”

“Of course I came to watch the game!”

"Oh.” There was an uncomfortable pause. “So, how’s school going?”

“Do not address me as if I were a school child,” Snape sneered. Then, seeing the uncomfortable look on the girl’s face, quickly added, “But, since you ask, it’s going well. Your games?”

She gasped excitedly. “I
been in 38 death matches, you know, but I only won 37!” She was obviously proud.

“How did you manage that?” he managed to ask.

“Both us players went unconscious afore neither one of us could kill the other. So we both lost!”

“That’s—” Severus searched for the right word, “—interesting.”

Sam nodded. “Yeah. ‘Nyway, I gotta go now. Gotta warm up properly, least I sustain injury.”

Just as an aside, the game isn't deadly, 'cept for the death matches. My favorite line?

“Well, that was a lovely wake-up call,” Sam muttered. “I wish every day could start like this.”

Another idea I'm thinking about includes the long lost Genie-hunters. Nobody remembers them. There'd be five or six hunters total, all with witch-hunting licenses. Better'n genie-hunters. 'Course, hunting's not as cruel as it sounds. Onna my characters said, "Maybe it should be called witch-'talking.'"
